DOVE CANYON, Calif. - Mallory Kent shot a 74 (+3) Tuesday in the third round at the Anteater Invitational to finish in first place by one stroke. Kent posted a final score of 220 (+7).
"Mallory played great this week. I am so excited for her," said Head Coach Kelli Kamimura. "She is a tenacious athlete and continues to improve and grow."
WSU earned its first championship of the spring season with a team score of 904 (+52), six strokes in ahead of second-place BYU. Three Cougars placed in the top 15, with two in the top 10. This is the first title for WSU since last fall at the Circling Raven Invitational.
Lindsay Harmon finished tied for seventh after posting an 80 (+9) in the third round. Harmon posted a final score of 225 (+12). Kristen Rue carded a 78 (+7) in the final round for a score of 230 (+17) and finished tied for 14th.
Kristen Allard finished with at 234 (+21) and tied for 28th after shooting an 80 (+9) in the final round. Emma Betland carded a 76 (+5), her best round of the tournament, finishing tied for 41st with a score of 237 (+24).
Kamimura commented, "I'm so proud of the team. They never quit and continue to grow and mature as a team. This victory is an attribute to who they are as athletes and young women."
WSU will finish out its regular season April 16-17 at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Half Moon Bay, Calif.
