LEXINGTON, Ky. - Washington State senior Meagan Ganzer was one of 14 players named to the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Pacific Region Volleyball Team. Ganzer is the first Cougar player to receive All-Region honors since 1996 when Sarah Silvernail and Stephanie Papke were selected.

"This was very unexpected and I am completely surprised to receive this honor," Ganzer said. "I'm really excited that anything I have accomplished at Washington State would be worthy of this honor. I feel very blessed."

Ganzer, a 6-3 outside hitter from Black Diamond, Wash., led the Cougars and the Pac-12 Conference all season in kills per set and ended the season with a 4.88 kills per set average which was fifth-best nationally. She also had a 5.38 point per set average which was second-best in Pac-12 and sixth-best nationally. Ganzer accumulated 1,531 career kills which is third-best in WSU all-time records, and her 52 solo blocks is ninth-best in Cougar all-time records. She is also listed on WSU's single season kills list with 595 in 2011 which is second-best all-time and only 54 behind leader Silvernail's 649 kills in 1996.

"This award says a ton about Meagan as a player," WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "For her to be able to receive all-region with the lack of success we had as a team really says a lot about her ability as a player. And a lot of gratitude goes to the other players on the team who helped her get to this point; the passers, Camryn Irwin setting her the ball and any award like this really is a team effort. Meagan has done a great job and I really hope for the best during the All-America selections."

The AVCA Pacific Region includes teams from the Pac-12, West Coast and Big Sky Conferences and is one of eight regions for Division I institutions. First team all-region honorees are considered for All-America honors which will be presented Wed., Dec. 14, in San Antonio, Texas, at the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention.

Other All-Pacific Region first team players were: Kendall Bateman (USC), Alaina Bergsma (Oregon), Chloe Ferrari (San Diego), Natalie Hagglund (USC), Jennifer Hamson (BYU), Kim Hill (Pepperdine), Alex Jupiter (USC), Rachael Kidder (UCLA), Tarah Murrey (California), Bianca Rowland (Washington), Lauren Williams (USC), Rachel Williams (Stanford), and Carly Wopat (Stanford). The Pacific Region Freshman of the year is Krista Vansant (Washington).
