Fern leads Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate After Two Rounds of Play

LOMPOC, Calif. - Washington State redshirt junior David Fern leads the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate after two rounds of play at the par-72, 6,670-yard La Purisima Golf Course, Monday.

Fern shot an opening round 73 (+1), then fired the lowest second-round score in the 108-player field, a 3-under 69. Heading into Tuesday's final round, Fern holds a three stroke lead over J.J. Scurich of Cal Poly and Brandon Hillpot of UC-Riverside. Fern is the only player in the field under par after two rounds.

Sophomore Kevin Chen is tied for 18th with a two-round total of 149 (+5). Junior Ryan Witz is tied for 26th with a score of 150 (+6).

With consecutive 296s in the first and second rounds, the Cougars are in second place. Washington State heads into the final round trailing only UC Davis in the 21-team field. The Cougars are four strokes back of first place.

Sophomore Chris Collins shot 154 (+10) and freshman Jordan Mason shot 155 (+11) to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
