What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University men's golf team travels to Fairfax, Calif., for the Pacific-10 Conference Championships April 28-30, hosted by California...the three-day, 72-hole tournament will be played at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club...the first two rounds of play begin Monday with a 7:30 a.m. start time...the third round begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday and the final round is scheduled for Wednesday...live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com...complete results will be available at wsucougars.com.
The Field: The 10-team field pairs Washington State with four teams ranked in the top 20 including No. 3 UCLA, No. 5 USC, No. 11 Stanford and No. 20 Arizona State...the Cougars also face No. 45 Oregon State, No. 50 California, Arizona and Washington (Rankings according to Golfweek).
Traveling for the Cougars: Six Cougars will be traveling to California to take a swing at victory...the Cougar contingent includes senior Jordan Mason, sophomores Nick Grigsby, Austin Hurt and Kevin Tucker and freshmen Xavier Dailly and Nick Ellis...five scores will be counted each day.
Last Time at the Pac-10 Championships: Last year the Cougars were led by Hurt, who finished tied for 18th at the par-72, 7,033-yard Eugene County Club...in his debut Pac-10 tournament Hurt fired a four-round total of 288 which included a 2-under par 70 in the final day of play...the Cougars combined for a total score of 1,484 and finished in 10th place...Chris Collins ended the first day of play at 1-under and finished the tournament tied for 36th, inking a score of 295...Jordan Madison ended the tournament close behind his teammate and posted a score of 296 (+8)...Mason carded a 305, Tucker shot a 306 and Grigsby rounded out the Cougar scorers with 307.
Last Time Out: WSU finished tied for second with host school Brigham Young at the Cougar Classic, April 19...the men fired a 6-under 858 and were one of only four teams in the 14-team field to finish the competition under par...the Cougars final-round score of 288 tied for the lowest total of the day...Ellis and Hurt each finished tied for second after shooting scores of 6-under (210) at the par-72, 7,001-yard Riverside Country Club...Ellis' performance moved him into a tie for third on the top 10 finishes in a season list (five) and into a tie for fourth on the list for top 25 finishes in a season (eight)...Hurt notched his 10th career top 25 finish and cracked the all-time list at WSU (T-10th)...Dailly shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish tied for 39th with a score of 220...Grigsby inked a 222 and Tucker finished close behind with 223 to round out the Cougar contingent.
