PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's rowing team finished ahead of Gonzaga in four of six matchups during an increasingly windy Head of the Spokane Saturday morning.
The Cougar varsity eight (Erica Lewis, Annie Eastwood, Hannah Rothstrom, Katie Dick, Lisa Roman, Irena Neffeova, Natasha Ostopovich, Kyann Martin, Corina Chilibeck (cox)) was the first women's boat of the day to finish, coming in 49 seconds ahead of the Bulldog varsity eight with a time of 17:38.
By approximately the same margin, the WSU second varsity eight (Kasia Rademacher, Danya Levesque, Ann Hoag, Sarah Powell, Justine Galbraith, Erika Jorgensen, Christina Kinck, Sarah Wolff, Cayla Ravancho (cox )) beat the Gonzaga second varsity eight, finishing with a time of 18:26. The Cougar second varsity eight also finished the course one second faster than the Bulldog's varsity eight.
The Cougar third varsity eight (Jessica Start, Katie Wollstein, Liz England, Leah Smith, Crystal Martin, Tamara Jonoubeh, Josie Lallemand, Lauren Johnson, Lexi Ryman (cox)) and fourth varsity eight (Liz Beck, Kaitlan Foster, Kelly Brashers, Corinna Sharick, Allie Reilly, Alison Smith, Liana DeMaris, Rachel McNeil, Johanna Gerig (cox)) each finished ahead of the Gonzaga third varsity eight, with times of 19:04 and 20:22 respectively.
The WSU novice eight also defeated its counterpart, finishing more than a minute faster than the Gonzaga novice eight, with a time of 20:06. The Cougar second and third novice eights each finished more than one minute slower than the Bulldogs, with times of 22:44 and 24:30 respectively.
WSU will return to the Palouse to host the Head of the Snake Friday, Oct. 30, at Wawawai Landing.
