ST. GEORGE, Utah -- - Freshman Diana Hong fired a final round 72 at the NCAA West Regional Saturday to finish tied for 19th, while the Cougars finished eleventh in the 21-team field and missed out on a berth in the national championships by six strokes.
Joining Hong in the top 25 was sophomore Amy Eneroth, who closed with her best round, 74, after consecutive scores of 76. She tied for 23rd. WSU's leader through two rounds, Jessica Black, slipped to a tie for 37th with a round of 80 Saturday over the par 71, 6,234 yard Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club. WSU's Brooke Henderson shot her best round, 77, while Tracy Broders closed with an 81.
Oklahoma State and Stanford tied for the regional title with identical scores of 874. The Cougars had been tied for eighth after the first and second rounds and improved by six strokes over their Friday effort, but several other teams closed with a final round under 300 to move ahead of WSU and ace the Cougars out of a chance to reach the national tournament for the second time in five years. The top eight teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.
