PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State junior Ross Humes has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award preseason watch list. The award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.
A native of Federal Way, Wash., Humes is one of 40 pitchers on the list and is among the seven southpaws being touted. Last season, Humes set the WSU single-season saves record with 12 and he is tied for second on the Cougar career list with a baker's dozen.
The watch list will be updated the week of April 14. At the conclusion of the regular season, the national saves leader and four other finalists will be selected and have their names released May 28. The winner will be announced June 4.
