Men's Golf Returns to Face Familiar Competition at Barona Collegiate Cup

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team will be traveling to Lakeside, Calif., Oct. 24-25 for the Barona Collegiate Cup held at the par-72, 7,088 yard Barona Creek Golf Club...the two-day tournament will start Monday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes teeing off at 7:30 on Tuesday.

The Field: The 18-team field contains three teams ranked in Golfstat's weekly top-25: San Diego State (14), BYU (15), and Louisville (21)...also competing are Colorado State, Denver, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas State, Missouri, Nevada, San Diego, Texas Tech, UC-Santa Barbara, Utah, UTEP, Washington State, Wichita and Wisconsin...the Cougars have already competed against six of these teams during their first three tournaments.

Last Time Out at the Mackenzie Invitational: Junior Chris Collins tallied up his second top-10 finish of the year at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational held at the par-71, 6,066 yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif., Oct.10-11...Collins' third round score of 72 landed him in a seven-way tie for tenth... redshirt junior Jordan Madison finished the two-day tournament knotted in a tie for 28th...as a team, the Cougars finished in 10th place.

The Cougars at the Barona Collegiate Cup: Last season, Chris Collins captured his first top-25 finish as a Cougar at the Barona Collegiate Cup, while the Cougars as a team finished 10th...in 2003, redshirt junior Jordan Madison finished in the top-25, his fourth top-25 finish of his freshman campaign...as a team the Cougars finished 12th...Cougar standout Dustin White finished in a tie for 14th in 2002, adding another top-25 finish to his resume...the team finished the tournament in 13th.

Madison Moves up in the Record Books: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison's ninth place finish at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, Sept. 26-27, moved him into a three-way tie for fifth in the WSU record book for total career top 10 finishes...Madison now has 7 top 10 finishes as a Cougar.

Washington State in the Rankings: Junior Chris Collins is ranked No.4 in the nation by Golfstat for total short game(.803)...as a team, the Cougars are ranked No. 52 in the nation in Golfstat's weekly poll...in the most recent rankings by Golfstat, the team is ranked No. 2 for total short game (.622), No.5 for greens in regulation (.691), and No.8 for par-5 scoring (4.71).

Madison Captures Title: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison captured the 104th Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship title becoming the second consecutive Cougar to win the tournament...tournament was held at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood, Wash., July 11-16...Madison was paired with University of Washington's Travis Andrews for the championship round...the two exchanged the lead three times during the first round which concluded with Andrews ahead by one stroke...Madison took charge in the second round by winning four consecutive holes...his birdie on the 14th gave him a four up advantage and with both players making par on the 15th, Madison clinched the title...redshirt senior David Fern won the tournament in 2004.
