WSU VOLLEYBALL BEGINS HEAD COACH Jen Greeny ERA
The Washington State University volleyball team program began the Jen Greeny Era in the Fall of 2011...simultaneously, Greeny's first season coincided with the first season for the Pac-12 Conference...after being named WSU's 12th head coach for volleyball March 24, 2011, Green only had a few days of practice with the returning players...during the summer months, Greeny and her staff hit the road not only to recruit but to evaluate the incoming players signed by the previous staff...the Spring 2012 practices should continue the education process for the returning players while the coaches contintue to recruit for the 2013 season.
COUGAR COACHING STAFF
First year Head Coach Jen Stinson Greeny (12-20 at WSU, 124-44 in 5-year career) is no stranger to Washington State volleyball...an outstanding student and athlete at WSU, Greeny was an All-Pac-10 player and member of three NCAA teams including the 1996 Elite Eight team...also an assistant coach for three more NCAA appearances including the 2002 Elite Eight team...had highly successful NAIA coaching career at Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) with four-year record of 112-24 (.824)...assistant coaches Pat Stangle (former head coach at Wyoming, former asst. coach at Washington) and Burdette Greeny (former asst. coach at LCSC)...Katie Hinrichs, coordinator of operations (former player at LCSC)...volunteer coach Shannon Wyckoff Hunt was the first WSU player to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
REBUILDING THE COUGAR VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM
** Six more wins than in all of 2010 season
** Pac-12 Conference = four more wins than in 2010 season
** 2011 Cougars = 1 senior, four returning letterwinners, 11 newcomers, only one player on 2011 team recruited by Greeny
** Senior Meagan Ganzer led Pac-12/ 4th nationally with 4.88 kills per set and is 2nd in Pac-12 with 5.38 points per set/ 6th nationally.
**2012 WSU Recruit signee: Kate Sommer, 5-4 defensive specialist from Pacific Palisades, Calif., will join 2012 Cougars' team...senior at Lighthouse Christian Academy...three-time All-Coastal League selection...league MVP as a junior...2010 All-CIF accolades...named one of the top liberos on prepvolleyball.com's Senior Aces (top 150 prep players nationally).
WSU SENIOR Meagan Ganzer HONORED
Outside hitter Meagan Ganzer (Black Diamond, Wash.) concluded her career at WSU with an outstanding senior season in spite of success by the Cougars team...Ganzer was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team (first Cougar since LaToya Harris in 2002), to the AVCA All-Region First Team (first Cougar sin Sarah Silvernail and Stephanie Papke in 1996), and AVCA All-America honorable mention (first Cougar since 1996; Silvernail First Team, Papke Second Team)...Ganzer became the 11th Cougar to score 1,000 kills in a career 8/27 at Seattle U...her career 1,531 kills places her third in WSU's all-time records, ahead of her coach, Jen Stinson Greeny, who tallied 1,006 kills in her 1995-98 career, and volunteer coach Shannon Wyckoff Hunt's 1,051 kills 1994-97...Ganzer's 52 solo blocks is ninth on the WSU career list.
