What's Happening This Week: WSU women's golf will travel to the hills of Colorado to participate in the 2002 Heather Farr/CU Memorial Invitational Oct. 7-8 at the Par 72, 6,087 yard Omni Interlocken Golf Club at Broomfield, Colo... Tee time will be 8 a.m. Monday, and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday...the Memorial Invitational is a 54-hole tournament, with 18 holes played Monday, and the final 36 holes, Tuesday.

Field: The 15-team field will consist of Colorado, Colorado State, Hawaii, Gonzaga, Wyoming, Mesa State, Denver, Nevada, UC-Irvine, Cal-State Northridge, Eastern Washington, Washington State, Weber State, Montana State, and Portland State.

Last Week at the Lady Vandal Invitational: The Washington State women's golf team finished in third place at the Lady Vandal Invitational at University of Idaho Golf Course...WSU was led by the Top 10 finishes of Kim Welch, who tied for 2nd, and Jay Lee Longbottom who tied for 7th place...The Cougars improved their scoring as a team through each round of the tournament, finishing the final round with a total of 314, the third best of the afternoon...Welch recorded her 8th career Top 10 finish, and moved out of a three way tie for second place on the WSU career Top 10 list... Freshman Stephanie Parsley finished in a tie for 13th place, and received her second consecutive Top 25 finish in her young career at WSU...Donna Bell also finished in the Top 25 with a tie at 24th...Lindsey Bogden finished the tournament in a tie for 35th

Marking the Scorecard: WSU ranks 91st as a team according to the second Golfweek/Sagarin performance index of the fall...Kim Welch ranks 124th in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual performance index.

Sq-Welch-ing The Competition: In her last three tournaments, Welch has finished in second (Lady Vandal), third (Ram Fall Classic) and 20th (Shanico Invitational)...Welch now sits just three Top 10 finishes away from tying first place Tasha Browner's 12...Welch has lowered her scoring average by nearly two full strokes (76.1 to 74.2) from last season.
