VALLEJO, Calif. - Carmel Sielicki, a freshman from Modesto, Calif. cracked the top 25 with a 78 on her scorecard in the first round of the Bay Area Classic at Blue Rock Springs Golf Course. Sielicki's tie for 24th place is a career best.

Senior Stefanie Coleman (Tacoma, Wash.) is only one stroke behind Sielicki, shooting a 79 in the first round of tournament play. Jenny Ballou, a senior from Portland, Ore., is not far behind turning in an 80 on her scorecard.

Washington State is in ninth place out of 16 teams competing, while Pepperdine University leads the tournament. Co-hosts California and University of San Francisco are in third and sixth places, respectively.

The Cougar women will complete the final round Tuesday, March 2.
