TUCSON, Ariz. - Despite competing in his home town, Washington State University's Ryan Witz struggled during the second round of the NCAA West Regional as he dropped into a tie for 81st (75, +3) at the par-72, 7,200 yard Omni Tucson National Golf Club.

Witz started the day off at even par. After sinking a bogey on the first hole, Witz rebounded with a birdie on the fifth to bring him back to where he started. But a bogey on the seventh had Witz going into the back nine with a score of 1-over 73. Two bogeys on final nine holes left Witz in a seven-way tie for 81st heading into the final round.

The Tucson, Ariz., native, who captured the title at the Duck Invitational in March, looks to continue his senior success in the final 18 holes of the tournament which tees of at 7:00 a.m., Saturday. The top 10 teams and two individuals in the event will qualify for the 2006 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, May 31-June 3 at the Crosswater Club at the Sunriver Resort at Sunriver, Ore.
