THIS WEEK: The Washington State soccer team begins its 2011 season at Hawaii, Friday, Aug. 19...match is scheduled for 10 p.m. Pacific (7 p.m. in Hawaii).
SERIES RECORD: Washington State is 3-0 all-time against Hawaii...Cougars won 2-0 in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 19, 1994, posted a 3-0 victory at home, Oct. 27, 1995 and were victorious 3-0 at Hawaii, Sept. 17, 2010.
EARLY BEGINNING TO THE SEASON: Friday's match against at Hawaii marks the earliest date to open a season in Cougar history...it is the 11th-straight season Washington State has played in August and 13th overall...Cougars are 12-8-3 in August matches all-time...under Matt Potter, Washington State is 9-7-3 in August.
COUGARS IN SEASON OPENERS: Washington State is 17-4-1 in season openers, including 10-3-1 when beginning a campaign away from Pullman.
LAST YEAR IN HAWAII: The Cougars captured the Outriggers Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic by defeating Hawaii (3-0) and Pepperdine (1-0)...Emma Stolz scored a pair of goals in the first match with Eileen Maes adding another...against the Waves, Stolz scored the game-winner and was named tournament MVP...Meghan Berlingo was in goal for both shutouts...victory over Pepperdine was the 200th in Cougar soccer history.
