FAIRFAX, Calif. - Washington State redshirt sophomore Kevin Tucker led the Cougars at the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Golf Championships Wednesday, finishing 23rd at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club.

Tucker's four-round total of 291 (+7) is tied for 10th on the Cougar list for lowest total at the conference tournament. Tucker opened with a first-round 3-under 68, tying for the third-lowest single-round score at the conference tournament in school history. The Kennewick, Wash., native finished in the top 25 in six of seven spring tournaments, and his eight top 25 finishes in 2007-08 rank tied for fourth in a single-season all-time at WSU.

Freshman Nick Ellis rebounded from shooting 81-78 in the tournament's opening day of play to shoot 73 (+2) in the third round and an even-par 71 in the final round. Ellis completed his first season as a Cougar with a scoring average of 73.25, the lowest single-season average for a freshman in school history. The mark led all Cougars this season, as the Wenatchee, Wash., native became the first freshman to lead the team in scoring since Walt Williams took the helm of the Cougar program in 1998.

"Tucker and Ellis had great seasons and they are only a sophomore and freshman, respectively," WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said. "But these young guys are still learning and we look forward to coming back with them the next two years and making it more of a battle."

As a team the Cougars finished in 10th with a score of 1,502 (+82).

Senior Jordan Mason (Delta, B.C.), who recorded the second hole-in-one of his collegiate career during the second round, posted a 72-hole total of 308 (+24) to close out his collegiate career. Mason's career scoring average of 74.62 ranks ninth all-time at WSU, and his 11 career top 25 finishes ranks 10th on the all-time list.

Sophomore Nick Grigsby, out of Spokane, Wash., was the Cougars' second-best finisher at the conference tournament, carding a four-round total of 302 (+18). Grigsby posted consecutive rounds of 77 on day one, but finished strong with a third-round 75 (+4) and a final-round 73 (+2).

Rounding out the Cougar scorers were sophomore Austin Hurt (307, +23) and redshirt freshman Xavier Dailly (313, +29). Hurt (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) finished this season with three top 10 and four top 25 finishes, both career highs. Dailly (Burlington, Wash.) posted one top 25 finish in his first season as a Cougar.

"Tucker, Hurt and Grigsby were solid, and sometimes spectacular, and all three are only sophomores," Williams said. "They all got great experience this season and made a lot of progress. I am really looking forward to next season. Hopefully, if they keep progressing, we will be a force in the Pac-10."
