Spokane, Wash.--- Washington State swept both the men's and women's tournament at the Inland Collegiate Challenge at the par-72 Indian Canyon Golf Course on Friday. For the Cougar men, it was their second straight title in the event that pits the region's four major universities.

The second annual event was delayed due to morning frost, cutting the tournament from 36 holes to 27. Idaho senior Mychal Gordon was the men's champion, while Gonzaga freshman Nicole Keller won on the women's side.

The Cougar men were led by sophomore Jeremy Taylor (West Richland, Wash.), who picked up where he left off a week ago at the Border Olympics with another top-10 finish. Taylor fired a 72 in the first round and finished with a total of 105 in the shortened event, good for third place. Fellow sophomore Jon Reehoorn (Burlington, Wash.) was one stroke behind in fourth place. Freshman Matt McGeeney (San Pedro, Calif.) carded an even-par on the first 18 and placed sixth. Rounding out the scoring for WSU, senior Eric Toomey (Snohomish, Wash.) shot a 71 followed by a 38 in the next nine and ended the day eighth on the leader board.

On the women's side, Washington State's balanced attack proved to be too much for the rest of the field. Sophomore Tasha Browner (Tarzana, Calif.) carded a 27-hole 112 and finished one stroke behind Gonzaga's Keller in second place. Jennifer Dodd (Portland, Ore.) and freshman Donna Bell (Prince George, BC) helped the Cougars sweep the second through fourth place spots. Dodd, a junior, fired a 115 while the Canadian, Bell, finished two strokes back at 117. Senior Jenny Ballou (Portland, Ore.) shot a 118 and placed tied for sixth with teammate Shanelle Roberts (Tacoma, Wash.).

Only the first 18 holes will be counted towards Golfstat / NCAA rankings. The Cougar men will travel next to Tempe, Ariz. for the Thunderbird / Savane Invitational on April 15-16. The women will be in Stanford, Calif. for the Peg Barnard California Collegiate, which will also begin next Friday.
