ANOTHER PAC-10 WEEKEND, ANOTHER SET OF RANKED FOES: The Washington State volleyball team, 8-8, 1-2 in Pacific-10 Conference action, travels to the San Francisco Bay area to take on No. 3 and defending national champions Stanford (15-1, 4-0), and No. 13 California (11-2, 4-0)...Stanford match is at Maples Pavilion Friday, Oct. 7...Cal match is at Haas Pavilion, Saturday, Oct. 8...both begin at 7 p.m....WSU won its first Pac-10 match of the 2005 season with a 3-1 win over Arizona State Saturday night at Pullman.

OCTOBER MEANS THE ABC CAMPAIGN: Cougar volleyball and the Breast Cancer Support Group of the Palouse, known as the Bosom Buddies, have joined together for the Attacking Breast Cancer (ABC) Pledge Drive for the fourth consecutive year...October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Cougar players will be collecting monetary pledges for each attack which results in a kill (and a point) for WSU during the 11 matches this month...a total of $1,645.80 was collected in 2004, $1,623.35 in 2003, and $1,019 in 2002...players wear pink ribbons to draw attention to the campaign...interested donors may contact the WSU volleyball office at 509-335-0277.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Brian Heffernan returns for his second season at WSU (13-34 career record)...WSU's assistant coaches are Jody Garry (second year) and Ken Ko (first year).

WATCH COACH HEFFERNAN: Every Tuesday afternoon during the volleyball season, beginning at 1:20 p.m. PT, WSU Head Coach Brian Heffernan is part of the teleconference with a LIVE video broadcast on the WSU internet site of www.wsucougars.com.

LAST WEEK: Cougs traveled to Eastern Washington University for the final non-conference match of the season and fell to the Eags 20-30, 30-24, 25-30, 27-30...No. 13 Arizona overcame a tough first game to take the victory over the Cougs 37-35, 30-22, 30-15...WSU defeated Arizona State 28-30, 30-28, 32-30, 30-16...for the week, WSU's Jen Barcus led the team with 44 kills (4.00 kpg, 5.09 ppg) and added 13 blocks (1.18 bpg), three aces and 11 digs...Te'Ara Epps added 18 blocks (1.64 bpg) and 24 kills...Jalen Pendon had 69 digs (6.27 dpg) including the WSU single match record-tying 34 digs in the ASU match...Kelly Rosin served seven aces in 11 games (0.64 aces per game average)...Stephanie Weishaar had 30 digs including a career-high 13 against ASU.

ABOUT NO. 3 STANFORD CARDINAL (15-1, 4-0) - The defending national champions, Stanford's only loss was a No. 1 Nebraska, 3-0, the second match of season...pair of freshmen lead the Trees - Cynthia Barboza (4.67 kpg, 2nd Pac-10) and Foluke Akinradewo (4.25 kpg, .415 hpct, 1.12 bpg)...other notables Bryn Kehoe (14.54 apg), Courtney Schultz (3.94 dpg)...Head Coach John Dunning (135-21, 5 years at SU; 572-123 22 years)...LAST TIME - Stanford defeated WSU 3-0 at Stanford (30-19, 30-22, 30-22) Nov. 19, 2005...SERIES RECORD - Stanford leads 35-3...all three WSU wins have come in Pullman.

ABOUT NO. 13 CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS (11-2, 4-0) - California's losses have been 3-2 matches with San Diego and Nevada...Angie Pressley (4.73 kpg - Pac-10 leader), Ellen Orchard (1.24 bpg). Samantha Carter (13.48 apg) and Jillian Davis (4.33 dpg) are team leaders...Head Coach Rich Feller (109-81, 7 years at Cal; 408-248, 21-year career record)...LAST TIME - Cal defeated WSU 3-0 ( 30-23, 30-21, 30-18) Nov. 18, 2005 at Berkeley...SERIES RECORD - California leads the series with WSU 22-21-1...WSU's last win in Berkeley was Oct. 19, 2001 (3-1).
