PULLMAN, Wash. -- - Washington State overcame a six-run deficit, then allowed two runs in the ninth inning in an 11-9 loss to Arizona in Pac-10 Conference action at Bailey-Brayton field Thursday.

Nick Kenyon (1-3) took the loss in relief for WSU (11-25 overall 3-7 Pac-10), allowing two runs and no hits in the ninth inning. Wes Zlotoff pitched the ninth inning to notch his first save of the season.

At the plate, Justin Hart, Jay Miller and Grant Richardson each had two hits for WSU. Richardson hit his team-leading seventh home run, a solo shot in the seventh that tied the game at 9-9. It was his fourth consecutive game with a homer.

WSU led early, taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Steve Mortimer singled to score Richardson and Miller. Derek Bruce then scored as Mortimer was thrown out attempting to steal second base.

The Wildcats responded by scoring three runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the sixth, taking a 9-3 lead.

The Cougars then rallied to tie the game at 9-9 after seven innings.

In the sixth WSU pulled within one run with a five-run rally. Miller led-off with a double and was brought home when Jeremy Farrar singled to right centerfield. After Farrar advanced to second on a wild pitch and then stole third and Richardson walked and Bruce singled up the middle, plating Farrar.

Pinch hitter Robert Stahlke then reached first on a fielder's choice that forced Bruce out at second. Stahlke advanced to second a passed ball, with Richardson scoring from third. Jeff LaRue and Wes Falkenborg then hit back to back singles allowing Stahlke to score. Hart then singled to right field, scoring LaRue.

After a 32-minute rain delay at the end of the sixth inning, Richardson hit a bomb that bounced off the top of the right field wall for the game-tying run in the seventh.

In the top of the ninth, Kenyon recorded the first out, then issued a walk, recorded another out and then walked a second batter. Brett Beetham then entered the game, but allowed a run-scoring single to Brian Anderson. Arizona then pushed an insurance run home on a Cougar fielding error.
