LOMPOC, Calif. - Washington State redshirt junior David Fern finished tied for 10th place at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Tuesday.

Fern shot 220 (+4) over three rounds at the par-72, 6,670-yard La Purisima Golf Course, only three strokes back of first place. In 11 tournaments this season Fern has recorded seven top 25 finishes including four top 10s and a tournament victory at the Inland Cup, Feb. 14.

The Cougars finished second in the 21-team field, eight strokes back of tournament champion UC Davis. The team's three-round total of 887 (+23) is their third-lowest three-round score this season, and their second place finish is their best finish since winning the Inland Cup, Feb. 14.

"This is the best we've played all year," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. "There were probably six regional teams there, and I am very happy to get some good, quality wins against them."

Also finishing in the top 25 were junior Ryan Witz and sophomore Kevin Chen. Witz finished tied for 14th, shooting 222 (+6), while Chen finished tied for 20th with a three-round total of 223 (+7).

"This was a hard golf course," Williams said. "None of the scores were very low, but we had three guys in the top 20 and I am very excited about it."

Sophomore Chris Collins shot 228 (+12) and freshman Jordan Mason shot 230 (+14) to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
