PULLMAN, Wash. - Senior Eli Schmied (Woodenville, Wash.) and freshmen Rebecca Cohen (Portland, Ore.) and Lindsay Cohen(Rochester, N.Y.) each won two events to lead Washington State to a 112-73 win over Central Washington in a women's swimming dual meet, Saturday at Gibb Pool.

Schmied finished first in both the 50 Freestyle (25.41) and led the Cougars to a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:11.79.

"I worked on techniques today," Schmied said. "I wish I swam faster, but I think we swam solid as a team.

Cohen won both the the 1,000 Freestyle in a time of a 10:47.15 and added a win in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 54.34.

Henahan won back-to-back events with times of 2:10.99 and 2:11.20 in the 200 Individual Medley and 200 Butterfly, respectively.

Washington State used the meet to allow its swimmers to gain experience in events in which they do not usually compete.

"For swimming 'off' events, I thought everyone did well," Henahan said. "We're swimming faster now, but we're still making a lot of mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes that slowed me down."

"I have completely mixed reviews abou the win," Cougars' Coach Rocco Aceto said. "I saw a lot of small mistakes that are adding up and we need to work on that. We swam ?off' in some events."

Senior Gretchen Chambers (Adelaide, Australia) finished with the best time in the 500 Freestyle (5:23.91). Although her effort came in an exhbition performance, it was significant because it was her first in six weeks.

"I am looking to see where I am at right now," Chambers said. "The main aim is to swim well at Pac-10 (February 24-26, 2000)."

Joni Jacobs posted the lone win for Central Washington with a time of 2:31.82 in the 200 Breaststroke.

The Cougars' next dual meets will be held during Apple Cup weekend Nov. 19 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. and Nov. 20 at Husky Pool in Seattle.
