LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior midfielder Randi Glas notched the first multiple-goal match of her career as the Washington State women's soccer squad crushed host Louisville 4-1 Friday evening.
The Cougars (4-4-0) got their best offensive production in 25 matches to pick up their second straight road win while the Cardinals (5-6-0) lost their fifth in a row.
The first goal by Glas (Grand Forks, N.D.) gave WSU a 3-0 halftime lead. Her next score, an unassisted goal, came just 37 seconds into the second half.
Freshman Deka DeWitt (Auburn, Wash.) put the Cougars ahead 1-0 in the sixth minute with a crossing shot from 15 yards out. Senior Tina Walsh (Boise, Idaho), who assisted DeWitt's goal, scored her own goal unassisted from the right corner of the 18-yard box. The goal moved Walsh into third place on WSU's all-time list with 13.
"We played a solid 90 minutes," said Cougar head coach Lisa Gozley. "We got most every reserve in the match which is critical for us since this is such a long road trip."
Freshmen goalkeepers Shannon Wilson (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Rebecca Faulkner (Brentwood, Calif.) each played 45 minutes stints. Wilson, the starter in all eight matches this year, was flawless as she picked up two saves. Faulkner made three saves in her first appearance in goal and allowed the Cardinals' only goal by Jakie Sellers in the 71st minute.
WSU battles Kentucky, an NCAA Tournament team each of the past two seasons, Sunday, Oct. 5.
