PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Francine McCurtain scored a season-high 23 points, including 20 in the second half, in the Cougars' 87-66 loss to the USC Women of Troy in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action, Friday at Friel Court.

The loss dropped WSU to 2-12 overall and 0-4 in the Pac-10 while USC improved to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

McCurtain recorded her season best effort on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. The freshman from Chinle, Ariz., led a contingent of three Cougars that scored in double-digits. Brittney Hawks (13 points) and Jessica Perry (11 points) completed the trio. Perry's effort marked the second straight game the freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., scored in double-figures. In addition, Perry added eight assists.

USC was led by a 23-point effort from Aisha Hollans, who led a group of five USC players that scored in double figures. The quintet included Rachel Woodward (15 points), Kim Gipson (12 points), Ryane Alexander (10 points) and Carmen Krause (10 points).

WSU struggled from the floor in the first half as USC took a 42-20 lead into the halftime break. The Cougars made 7-of-30 shots (23.3 percent) in the first half while USC converted 16-of-43 attempts (37.2 percent).

It would take WSU less than five minutes to slice USC's advantage in half to 46-35 as the Cougars outscored USC 15-4 in the opening 4:49 of the second half. WSU would force five USC turnovers and hold the Women of Troy to 2-of-8 shooting during the stretch.

USC withstood the threat, however, going on a 13-2 run over the next 2:26 to increase its lead back to the halftime margin. The Cougars would get no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
