COUGAR TRACK & FIELD TO COMPETE AT SCC WAR VI
Selected members of the Washington State men's and women's track and field teams will be competing at the SCC WAR VI meet Saturday, April 13 at Spokane Falls Community College...hammer and 10k races are Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m...Saturday events begin at 9 a.m. and conclude about 5 p.m...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com when available.

MPSF 2013 INDOOR T&F ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS
The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced the All-Academic teams for the 2013 indoor track season...WSU had 11 men and eight women named to the teams that recognize student-athletes who are at least sophomores with a 3.00 or higher GPA and have participated in 50 percent of the competitions...WSU men (and GPAs) named were: Justin England (3.85), Forrest Shaffer (3.61), Drew Jordan (3.40), Andrew Kimpel (3.34), Grant Schultz (3.31), Todd Wakefield (3.27), Richard Shroy (3.24), Andrew Gonzales (3.10), Dana Wells (3.03), Jacob Sealby (3.01) and Lee George (3.01)...WSU women (and GPAs) named were: Ruby Roberts (3.97), Holly Parent (3.84), Carly Fitzpatrick (3.75), Andrea Smith (3.70), Kelsey Bueno (3.43), Shaquana Logan (3.28), Courtney Zalud (3.27), and Erin Allen (3.10).

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES
Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 40th season with the Cougar track program; 19th year as a head coach, 18th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...Sloan (decathlon/heptathlon) is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell (throws) and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald (hurdles/relays), Ellannee Richardson (sprints/relays), Matt McGee (jumps) and cross country coach Tim Riley (distance)...volunteers include Jeshua Anderson, Chanel James and Courtney Simmons.

COUGAR INVITATIONAL READY FOR ENTRIES
The Cougar Invitational Track & Field Meet takes place Saturday, April 20, at Mooberry Track Complex on the WSU Pullman campus...the collegiate meet can be entered online through Direct Athletics...the women's hammer, javelin and men's long jump all begin at 9:30 a.m. with the first running event, the women's steeplechase, starting at Noon...the final event of the day, the men's 4x400m relay, is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

MOOBERRY TRACK RENOVATION
The Mooberry Track Complex underwent a renovation in the summer of 2012, updating the track surface and reconfiguring the field events within the infield track area for more effective use...constructed in 1979-80, the last time the track was resurfaced was in 1999...new running surface is a Beynon Sports Surface, a high-performance synthetic surface designed for speed and competition as well as daily training, found in the world's most renowned athletic facilities...in addition to a new drainage system, the discus circle was moved to the center of the infield...the entire "D" section, from the finish line of the 100 meters on the east side of the oval to the start of the 1500 meters on the west side, is covered by the Beynon surface....bi-directional long jump pits as well as the pole vault will be set up to have boxes at either end of the runway for competion in either direction...the last phase of the renovation is scheduled for summer of 2013 includes filling in the "D" at the south end of the field and creating a much larger high jump area and the ability to compete in different directions.
