PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State hit three home runs and defeated Portland 10-5 in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Tuesday.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Cougars (26-20). Freshman Adam Conley (1-1) gave up three runs in five innings and struck out three to earn his first-collegiate win.

"It was solid start for Adam Conley," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "I was really happy with our pitching and defense tonight and our offense came alive with some big home runs.

WSU jumped on Portland (23-24) starter Mark Triolo (4-6) for four runs in the first inning. With one out, sophomore Shea Vucinich doubled and came home with the game's first run on a single by freshman Derek Jones. Senior Jared Prince followed with a two-run home run and junior Michael Weber hit the next pitch over the wall for a solo shot to make the score 4-0.

The Cougars added two runs in the third on a RBI-fielder's choice by Prince and a run-scoring single by redshirt-sophomore Jay Ponciano.

The Pilots tallied three runs in the fourth, but WSU answered with three scores in the bottom half of the frame courtesy of a home run by senior Greg Lagreid with two men aboard.

Portland scored twice in the top of the seventh and the Cougars picked up a run in the eighth on a two-out error by the Pilots to cap the scoring.

The teams conclude their two-game series, Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.

WSU NOTES
Senior Jared Prince drove in three runs raising his career total to 153 and tying for eighth place all-time at Washington State...Derek Jones collected his 31st RBI to move into a tie for eighth on the WSU freshman list...his 80 total bases are tied for 10th most by a Cougar freshman...Adam Conley made his 18th appearance to tie for seventh on the Cougar freshman list.
