PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's basketball team fell to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 72-61, in nonconference women's basketball action, Tuesday at Beasley Coliseum.
Rosetta Adzasu led WSU (2-7) with 10 points. Ireti Amojo added nine points and three players (Carly Noyes, April Cook, Katie Madison) added eight points each for the Cougars. Ashley Eide led SDSU (4-4) with 15 points.
The team traded the lead in the early stages and the game was tied at 20 with 9:27 left in the first half. South Dakota State scored six straight points to take a 26-20 lead and used that momentum to take a 38-29 halftime advantage.
SDSU extended its lead to 42-31 nearly three minutes in the second half, but WSU went on an 8-2 run to close its deficit to 43-39 with 15:12 remaining. However, SDSU scored seven of the game's next eight points to open its lead back to double-digits at 50-40 with 13:14 left. SDSU did not trail by fewer than eight points the rest of the way.
For the game, SDSU shot 26-of-55 (47.3 percent) from the field while WSU was 19-of-47 (40.4 percent) including 8-of-25 (32 percent) in the first half.
WSU returns to action Saturday, Dec. 11 at Gonzaga. Tip is at 2 p.m.
