Cougars Garner Sixth Place Finish at Thunderbird Invite

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Washington State University's men's golf team opened up their spring season with a solid performance from redshirt senior Jordan Madison. Madison finished tied for fourth at the Thunderbird Invite held at the par-72, 6,781 yard Sunbrook Golf Course, Feb. 12-13.

Madison, playing as an individual, finished the first round tied for ninth place but a 6-under par effort in the second round moved him up five spots to finish in a three way tie for fourth (138, -6). The top-10 effort marks his first of the year and the 11th of his career.

Also playing as an individual was senior Kevin Chen, who finished the tournament in a six way tie for 44th. Chen shot a 1-under 72 in the second round of play, giving him a final score in the competition of 3-over 147.

Freshman Kevin Tucker ended the day in the top 25 with a final score of 2-under 142. Tucker, whose second round score of 68 marks the lowest of his career, finished in a four way tie for 19th. Freshman Nick Grigsby completed his second round of play shooting 1-under 72. Grigsby finished the tournament in a three way tie for 30th (144, E).

Junior Jordan Mason (145, +1) recorded a second round score of 1-over 72, leaving him in an eight way tie for 33rd. Redshirt senior Chad Carlson (162, +18), playing as an individual, shot a second round score of 9-over 72. Senior Chris Collins (149, +5) and freshman Austin Hurt (150, +6) wrapped up WSU's scoring efforts finishing t-53rd and t-61st respectively.

The Cougars ended the tournament with a two-day total of 577 (+1). Host Southern Utah won the tournament with a 14-under 562 effort. Denver (565, -11) finished the tournament in second place.
