Ryan Witz Rests in Top 25 After First Two Rounds at Pacific-10 Championship

PALM DESERT, Calif.- Washington State senior Ryan Witz leads the Cougars after the first two rounds as he sits tied for 24th heading into the third round of the Pacific-10 Championships held at the par-71, 7,009 yard Canyons Course at the Bighorn Golf Club.

Witz carded nine birdies during the first 36 holes to post a two round score of 3-over 145 landing him knotted at 24th. Witz, the only senior on the team, heads into day twojust three strokes out of the top 10. The Tuscon, Ariz., native is looking to continue a successful spring campaign that has brought four top-10 efforts including a first place finish at the Duck Invite.

Junior Kevin Chen also made an impact finishing day one just two strokes out of the top 25. Chen, who finished last years tournament tied for 25th, fired a 73-74 to end the day knotted at 33rd. Redshirt junior Jordan Madison's scores of 75-74 landed him in a four-way tie for 38th (149, +7).

Sophomore Jordan Mason's eagle on the 16th hole helped him card a 1-over 72 during the second round to move him up 13 spots in the charts, tying for 42nd (150, +8). Junior Chris Collins carded a two-round score of 12-over 154 (73-81) to place tied for 54th. Redshirt junior Chad Carlson rounds out the Cougar crew sitting in 60th after posting scores of 82-81 during the first 36 holes.

The Cougars sit in ninth after carding a two round score of 745 (371-374, +35). They sit five strokes ahead of Oregon heading into the third round. UCLA (No.5/Golfstat) leads the pack with a commanding 7-stroke lead over Washington at 13-under 697. The Bruins' Daniel Im leads the individual field at 7-under 135, two strokes ahead of Arizona State's Niklas Lemke and Washington's Erik Olson.

The day was cut short due to darkness before Arizona and Oregon were able to complete their second round. The tournament will resume Tuesday, April 25 at 7:30 with the two teams finishing their second round before the third round tees off at 9:30 a.m.
