RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Washington State University women's rowing novice eight squad dominated in Sunday's Grand Final of the Pac-10 Championships in Rancho Cordova, Calif., to become champions for the first time since 1994.

In the novice eight Grand Final, WSU became champions by rowing a time of 6:59.29, beating the University of Washington Huskies' time of 7:06.20. Oregon State University finished third at 7:17.70, and the University of California placed fourth at 7:21.39.

The Cougars second varsity eight boat rowed to a second place Grand Final finish by clocking in at 7:10.39. The varsity four squad placed third in its Grand Final at 7:55.60, and WSU's No. 20 ranked varsity eight stroked into fifth place with a time of 7:05.00.

"The novice eight just jumped out and never looked back. It is really exciting for them to bring home a Pac-10 Championship," said head coach Tammy Crawford. "We are pleased with how solid the varsity four and second varsity eight boats rowed, and they should be happy with how they have grown throughout this season."

The Cougar rowing team now awaits their fate as the field for the NCAA Championships will be announced Tuesday, May 15. The NCAA Championships are held from May 24-27 at Lake Lanier, in Gainesville, Georgia.
