Men's Golf Returns to California For Del Walker Intercollegiate

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team will be traveling to Long Beach, Calif., Nov. 3-4, for the Del Walker Intercollegiate held at the par-71, 6,631 yard Virginia Country Club...the two-day tournament will begin Thursday with tee times slated to begin at 7:05 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes teeing off at 7:00 on Friday...the tournament is the final tournament of the fall season for the Cougars.

The Field: The 12 team field includes (Golfstat top 100 rankings): Colorado State(83), Houston(74), Kansas, Lamar (64), Long Beach State(65), Nevada(45), North Texas, San Jose State, UTEP, Texas- San Antonio, UC-Irvine- B, UCSB, and Washington State(67)...Lamar won the 2004 title.

Last Time Out at the Barona Collegiate Cup: Sophomore Jordan Mason racked up his second top-25 finish of the season at the Barona Collegiate Cup held at the Barona Creek Golf Club, Oct. 24-25...Mason finished tied for 17th while Junior Kevin Chen tied for 37th...Rounding out the Cougar contingent, RS junior Jordan Madison tied for 61st, junior Chris Collins tied for 66th and senior Ryan Witz tied for 71st...the Cougars as a team finished tied for 12th at 12-under 852.

Traveling for the Cougars: Six Cougars will be making the trip down to California this week: Sophomore Jordan Mason, RS-junior Jordan Madison, junior Kevin Chen, junior Chris Collins, RS-junior Chad Carlson, and freshman Max Reinland...the Del Walker Intercollegiate will be Carlson's first tournament since spring of 2004 because of his redshirt season last year...Reinland will be traveling as an individual and his score will not count towards the teams as a whole.

Madison Moves up in the Record Books: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison's ninth place finish at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, Sept. 26-27, moved him into a three-way tie for fifth in the WSU record book for total career top 10 finishes...Madison now has 7 top 10 finishes as a Cougar.

Washington State in the Rankings: In the most recent ranking by Golfstat, Sophomore Jordan Mason is No.2 in the nation for greens in regulation (.792) and junior Chris Collins is No. 4 for total short game...as a team, the Cougars are ranked No. 71 in the nation...the team climbed up 5 spots from last week and is ranked No.3 for par 5 scoring (4.69)...No.4 for total short game (.590)...No.5 for greens in regulation (.700)...tied for No. 8 for par 3 scoring(3.13).

Madison Captures Title: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison captured the 104th Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship title becoming the second consecutive Cougar to win the tournament...tournament was held at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood, Wash., July 11-16...Madison was paired with University of Washington's Travis Andrews for the championship round...the two exchanged the lead three times during the first round which concluded with Andrews ahead by one stroke...Madison took charge in the second round by winning four consecutive holes...his birdie on the 14th gave him a four up advantage and with both players making par on the 15th, Madison clinched the title...redshirt senior David Fern won the tournament in 2004.
