Stanford, Calif. -- The Washington State cross country teams raced well at the West Regional Championships Saturday, on the Stanford Golf Course at Stanford, California. The Cougar men, led by Ian Johnson's 25th place finish, finished ninth overall in team scoring and the WSU women, with Anna Blue's 36th place finish, were twelfth.

Host Stanford continued its winning ways taking both the men and women's team championships.

Johnson, a junior from Spokane, Wash., ran a time of 31 minutes and 28 seconds for 25th. He was followed by senior Mark Wicklander in 42nd and sophomore Mike Heidt in 54th. Other Cougars placing were Kyle Barker 71st, Justin Ireland 79th, Danny Wolf 109th, and Reid Carrell 131st.

"Danny Wolf just had a bad day today," said Cougar Head Coach Jason Drake. "The rest of the team had a pretty good day. Ian Johnson had his best race of the year and really led the team."

Blue finished with a time of 22:40 for 36th place. Ana Cabrera turned in another nice performance, finishing 64th. The rest of the Cougar women and their finishes were Molly Bull 88th, Julia Corbett 97th, Hillary Smith 115th, and Hailey Young 158th.

"Anna Blue had another real good race," Drake said. "If she had ran a few seconds faster she would have had a shot to go to the NCAA Championships. Ana Cabrera also had a real good race for us."

Donald Sage of Stanford won the men's 10,000m race in 30:13, while Alicia Craig of Stanford won the women's 6,000m in 20:39.

The cross country season wraps up Monday, November 25, at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana.
