STANFORD - Washington State senior Stephan Scott-Ellis won the men's collegiate triple jump and the Cougar men's 4x100m relay team were victors Saturday at the 39th Annual Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Stephan Scott-Ellis (senior, Tacoma) won the men's collegiate section triple jump with season-best leap of 51-feet 1 inch (15.57m). PJ Benedictus finished seventh with a mark of 46-10 1/4 (14.28m). Earlier in the day, Scott-Ellis captured fourth place in the men's 200m dash with a wind-aided lifetime-best time of 21.25. Terrance Chambers ran a PR time of 21.74 for 12th place.
In the men's 110m final, Garrett Gerling (redshirt sophomore, Walla Walla) and Josiah Sims (junior, Tacoma) finished second and third, respectively, as both ran a time of 14.53. Gerling's time carried out to 14.527 and was a PR while Sims's time was 14.529 and a season-best PR.
Jesse Jorgensen lowered his 800m time to a season-best 1:50.80 for ninth in the faster section.
In an event held late Friday night, Jono Lafler (senior, Maple Valley, Wash.) ran the 10,000m in a time of 29:41.45 for 14th place in the elite second section.
Leading the WSU women, Shawna Fermin (senior, Victorville, Calif.) ran a season-best 200m dash time of 24.19 seconds for fifth place. Also in the 200m, running season-best times were Christiana Ekelem (24.99 - 21st), Holly DeHart (25.29 - 31st), and Morgan Clem (25.52 - 34th). Bree Winfrey's 25.17 was 30th.
Coutrney Zalud ran the women's 800m in a season-best time of 2:09.00 for 17th,
The women's 400m relay team of Holly DeHart, Dominique Keel, Ekelem and Clem ran season-best time of 46.57 for seventh. The women's 4x400m relay of Erin Allen, Keel, Ekelem and Winfrey took seventh place with a season-best time of 3:45.18. In other Saturday field events, Tay'lor Eubanks (freshman, Everett, Wash,) tripled jumped a PR distance of 49-7 1/4 (15.12m) for seventh place in the men's invitational section. Austin Sodorff pole vaulted a height of 15-11 (4.85m) for second place and that clearance equaled his PR height. Charlotte Muschamp triple jumped a season-best distance of 39-7 (12.06m) for eighth in the women's invitational section. Ashley Kenney threw the discus 147-7 (44.99m) for 12th in the women's invitational section.
The Cougars will compete in team competition next Saturday, April 6, at the Pepsi Invitational in Eugene against men's and women's teams from host Oregon, Washington
