CORVALLIS, Ore. - Washington State junior Chris Collins posted his best finish ever as a Cougar ending the tournament tied for fourth with senior Ryan Witz at the Northwest Collegiate Classic at the par-72, 7,070 yard Trysting Tree Golf Club.

The team got their season off to a good start finishing tied for third with UT-Arlington posting a final score of 859 (-5). Head coach Walt Williams was impressed with the level of play his golfers showed during the tournament.

"I felt we played really well. Chris and Ryan played very solid," Williams said. "It's a good start to the season to finish third. I am very excited with the way the guys played."

Redshirt junior Jordan Madison, who captured the 104th Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship this summer, also played strongly for the Cougars landing himself in a seven-way tie for 25th (71-70-79, 220, +4). Jordan Mason and Kevin Chen rounded out the scoring for the Cougar pack finishing tied for 44th and 56th respectively.

The Cougars opened the tournament boasting an impressive second place finish after the first 36 holes of play. Their second round score of 274 (-14) was the lowest score of the day.

The men will return to action at the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Louisville, Ky., Sept. 26-27.
