SEATTLE, Wash. - - Washington State, despite out-hitting rival Washington, fell 6-5 in a non-conference game Saturday at Husky Ballpark.

Tony Banaszak (0-4) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and six runs in the losing effort for WSU (3-12). David Dowling (4-0) pitched 1.1 innings in relief to notch the win for Washington (8-6). Will Fenton pitched the final two innings to record his fourth save of the season.

Justin Hart led the Cougars with a 4-for-5 day. Wes Falkenborg and Jeff LaRue added two hits each for WSU, who collected nine hits. Aaron Hathaway and Brent Lillibridge each had two hits to lead Washington's six-hit day.

Washington jumped out to a 2-0 lead, by pushing two runs across in the bottom of the second. WSU answered with a run in the top of the third. After Jay Miller reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch, he came home on a Hart single up the middle.

The Huskies extended their lead to 4-2 with a two-run fourth inning, but the Cougars tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth.

With the bases loaded and one out, Falkenborg singled to score Hart. LaRue then followed with a single to right field, plating Jeremy Farrar and Derek Bruce.

Washington responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go on top 6-4.

WSU added its final run in the top of the seventh, when Bruce's sacrifice fly to left field scored Jon Baeder with the bases loaded and no outs.

Fenton allowed just one Cougar base runner in the final two innings to notch the save.

Saturday's game was delayed two hours from its original 1 p.m. start. The final game of the weekend's three-game series begins at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, with WSU expected to send freshman Karl Mejlholm (1-1) to the mound.
