SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Washington State senior Meagan Ganzer was named to the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention volleyball team.
Ganzer, a 6-3 outside hitter from Black Diamond, Wash., was a 2011 All-Pac-12 Conference and AVCA All-Pacific Region first team selection. She led the Cougars and the Pac-12 all season in kills per set and ended the season with a 4.88 kills per set average which was fifth-best nationally. She also had a 5.38 point per set average which was second-best in Pac-12 and sixth-best nationally. Ganzer accumulated 1,531 career kills which is third-best in WSU all-time records, and her 52 solo blocks is ninth-best in Cougar all-time records. She is also listed on WSU's single season kills list with 595 in 2011 which is second-best all-time and only 54 behind leader Silvernail's 649 kills in 1996.
Ganzer has signed a contract to play volleyball professionally starting in January 2012 in Puerto Rico.
The Pac-12 landed four players on the 14-member first team: Alex Jupiter (USC), Natalie Hagglund (USC), Kendall Bateman (USC) and Rachael Kidder (UCLA). The AVCA All-America second team included Bianca Rowland (Washington) and Tarah Murrey (California) and the third team included Alaina Bergsma (Oregon) and Lauren Williams (USC). Fellow conference players joining Ganzer on the honorable mention team included Lauren Plum (Oregon), Rachel Williams (Stanford), and Carly Wopat (Stanford).
