BLUE AND GOLD FLEET INVADES PULLMAN: When San Jose State arrives in Pullman for Friday's series opener, the Spartans will not be the first team to don blue and gold uniforms at Bailey-Brayton Field this season...Cougars took three out of four from Kent State, March 7-9, captured the finale of a three-game set against California, March 20-22, and split a four-game series with UC Davis, April 4-6.
SERIES WITH THE SPARTANS: Washington State leads 12-7...series dates back to 1962 and the previous 19 meetings have taken place in San Jose...Spartans won 7-3, April 8, 1962 and Feb. 26, 1995 in single games...WSU took single games 4-0, April 8, 1964, 8-2, April 8, 1964, 3-1, April 8, 1967, 6-4, April 8, 1969 and 10-7, Feb. 19, 1994...San Jose state won two of three games in 1992 and 2003 while Washington State captured two of three games in 2007 and swept a three-game set in 1999.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS: San Jose State is 22-16, including a 13-4 victory over Hawaii-Hilo, Tuesday...teams play again Wednesday in San Jose...Spartans have won six-straight games...San Jose State is 6-9 on the road this season...Danny Stienstra leads teh team with a .393 batting average.
COUGARS AGAINST THE WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE: Washington State is 66-62 all-time against current baseball members of the Western Athletic Conference...in addition to their 12-7 record against this week's foe San Jose State, the Cougars are 9-15 against Fresno State, 11-19 vs. Hawaii, 10-5 against Nevada, 3-1 vs. New Mexico State, and 21-15 against Sacramento State...WSU has never met Louisiana Tech on the diamond.
SEASON PROMOTIONS: In 2008, Cougar fans will have the opportunity to enjoy season-long promotions at Bailey-Brayton Field...during the first game of a home series, local youth baseball teams can join the Cougar student-athletes on the field for the national anthem...register your team by calling 509-335-4325...first 100 fans in attendance at the second game of a home series or doubleheader will receive WSU baseball cards...fans can collect the set throughout the season...after the final game of a Cougar home series, kids can run the bases with the WSU mascot Butch and the Cougar team will take part in an autograph session...at every Friday home game, Washington State faculty and staff are admitted free with a staff identification card...new this season is a promotion that admits fans for $1 to any home game if the temperature drops below 35 degrees.
