EUGENE, Ore. - Justin LaTempa fired a one-hit shutout and No. 17 Oregon defeated Washington State 6-0 in a Pacific-10 Conference baseball game, Saturday.
LaTempa (4-2) retired the first-14 men he faced and had a no-hitter through seven innings. Matt Argyropoulos led off the WSU (22-16, 6-8 Pac-10) eighth with a double for the Cougars' lone hit. The Oregon (29-14, 9-8 Pac-10) hurler struck out 10 and walked one.
"Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team's pitcher and this was one of those games," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said.
The Ducks scored a run in the first and two more in the fifth against Cougar starter David Stilley (2-2). Oregon added an unearned run in the sixth against Connor Lambert and two runs, one unearned, in the seventh off Seth Harvey.
The series concludes, Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
Washington State played its 11th-straight Pac-10 game against a nationally-ranked opponent and is 5-6 in those games...Seth Harvey made his 69th-career appearance on the mound, sixth all-time at WSU.
