WSU COMPETES AT EWU LAST CHANCE MEET: Thorpe Fieldhouse on the Eastern Washington University campus is the site of this week's competition for a limited number of the WSU men's and women's indoor track and field teamsthis is the third time WSU has competed in Cheney this seasonthe following is a tentative list of the Washington State entries:

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 25th season with the Cougar track program (fourth year as a head coach, third year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program)...he is joined by associate coach Lissa Olson, assistant coaches Dr. Li Li, Debra Lombardi, Mark Macdonald, and Rohan Walker...WSU's volunteer assistant coaches are Jason Wiens, Robyn Bryson and Dan O'Brien.

NOTEWORTHY: Cougar junior thrower Ian Waltz (Post Falls, Id.) placed second in the shot put at the Colorado Springs Sprint Classic Meet Saturday in Colorado Springs, ColoradoWaltz's throw of 63-3 3/4 is a lifetime-best mark for him, and second-best collegiate mark in the nation this seasonJohn Godina, former UCLA athlete and 1996 Olympian, won the shot put event with a mark of 71-3, longest throw in the world this seasonfreshman Agneta Rosenblad (Sweden) rewrote the WSU women's 55m hurdles mark twice last weekend, first clocking 8.00 to win the Vandal Indoor Meet Friday night at the Kibbie Dome, and then bested that time the following day with a 7.98 time at the McDonald's II Open meetRosenblad also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18-8freshman Arend Watkins (San Jose, Calif.) won the men's 55m hurdles at the Vandal Indoor with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 7.23also at the Vandal Indoor, Rasto Kiplangat (senior, Kenya) won the men's 800m in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:49.87Eric Kamau (senior, Kenya) took the mile with an NCAA PQ clocking of 4:06.46 and fellow Kenyan Bernard Lagat won the men's 3,000m race in 8:13.64the top men's sprinter, sophomore Jody (Felton) Charles is no longer on the WSU track team due to personal reasonsCharles left the Pullman campus last week and has returned to his Oakland, Calif. home.
