Women's Golf Finishes First Round of Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational

SAMMAMISH, Wash. - The Washington State women's golf team finished its first day of competition in 12th place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, and only thee strokes out of the top 10, Monday.

The Cougar women fired a first round total of 318 at the par-72, 6,127-yard Sahalee Country Club.

Senior Brooke Henderson finished the day as the top Cougar with her score of 75 (+3). She sits in a tie for ninth place heading into the second day of competition.

Junior Amy Eneroth also fared well in the first round, as she carded a 5-over par 77. Eneroth is looking to continue her success after a second place finish in the Cougars' last tournament in Corvallis, Ore.

Senior Tracy Broders posted a first round score of 82 and sophomore Diana Hong was close behind with an 84. Junior Jessica Black finished the day with an 87 to round out the Cougar contingent.

"I know we can play better over the next two days," head coach Walt Williams said. "I think we'll make a run and move up in the field and I think we can finish strong. The women know how to overcome mistakes and make a charge."

The tournament is being dominated thus far by teams from the Pacific-10 Conference. The top six teams are all from the Pac-10 with Southern California leading the field and finishing the first day with a total score of 296.

The Cougar women look to move up the leaderboard tomorrow and compete with their Pac-10 rivals as the second day of competition begins at 10 a.m.
