COUGARS HOME FOR BADEN COUGAR CHALLENGE: The Washington State volleyball team, 3-1 on the season, plays at the University of Portland (0-0) Tuesday night, bringing the first road trip of the season to a close....Cougs host the Baden Cougar Challenge Tournament this weekend....joining WSU are teams from UNLV (2-1), Boise State (1-2), and UC Davis (0-2) for the two-day tourney being contested at Bohler Gym.

TOURNAMENT TICKETS - Reserved seats are $10 each per day....per day prices for General admission tickets are Adults $7 each, Youth, Seniors and Students $3 each, and a Family ticket (two adults and two children or one adult and three children) is $14....WSU students may use their sports passes to enter without charge.
LAST YEAR: Idaho won the Cougar Challenge with a 3-0 record after defeating WSU in the final match, 3-0....WSU was second at 2-1, followed by Oral Roberts (1-2) and Buffalo (0-3).
COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Brian Heffernan returns for his third season at WSU (17-49)....assistant coaches are Jody Garry (third year) and Ken Ko (second year)....Kirby Garry is the coordinator of volleyball operations.
ABOUT THE PORTLAND PILOTS: The Pilots open their 2006 season hosting WSU Tuesday, Aug. 29, in a 7 p.m. contest at the Chiles Center....finished 2005 season with overall record of 5-22....tied for 7th place in West Coast Conference....returns eight letterwinners including OH Nicole Thometz (2.96 kpg/26 aces) and libero Murphy McClenahan (5.06 dpg, second in the WCC)....Head Coach Doug Sparks (55-114/ 7th year)....LAST TIME: Sept. 28, 2005 at Portland, WSU won 3-1 (27-30, 30-21, 30-26, 30-20....SERIES RECORD: WSU leads 5-1 with a one-match win streak.

ABOUT THE UNLV REBELS (2-1): Opened season by hosting UNLV Classic, with Cal Poly, Oregon State and Oral Roberts....only loss of the weekend came against Cal Poly, a 3-2 loss....leading the team are OHs Jennifer Johnson (3.46 kpg) and Maria Aladjova (3.46 kpg)....Aladjova and RS junior Lauren Miramontes were named to the all-tournament team....Miramontes registerd a double-double (25 kills, 10 digs) in the Rebels' 3-1 victory over the Oregon State Beavers....junior libero Jada Walker (4.69 dpg).....Head Coach Allison Keeley (32-28/ 3rd year at UNLV; 71-66/6th year overall)....LAST TIME: Sept. 4, 2005 at Las Vegas, UNLV defeated WSU 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 30-28)....SERIES RECORD: UNLV leads 4-0.
ABOUT THE BOISE STATE BRONCOS(1-2* pending 8/30 match vs. Idaho State): The Broncos opened 2006 season at the Texas Christian University Tournament with losses against South Carolina and host TCU....Broncos claimed first victory with sweep of Loyola-Maryland....sophomore OH Jeanette Jenkins (3.20 kpg) and Arlee Tamietti (3.40 kpg) lead team....libero Jackie Stroud posted double-digit digs in all three matches (16 vs. South Carolina; 14 vs. Loyola-Maryland; 20 vs. TCU) for a 5.00 dpg average....sophomore setter Mandy Klein was named to the TCU All-Tournament team after posting 14 kills, 97 assists and 20 digs (9.70 apg)....as a team, the Broncos average 2.70 aces per game....Head Coach Robin Davis (1-2/first year at BSU; 224-82/11 years)....LAST TIME: Aug. 31, 2001 at Cougar Challenge Tournament, WSU posted 3-0 win (30-21, 30-13, 30-18)....SERIES RECORD: WSU leads 9-3 (BSU last win in 1988).
ABOUT THE UC DAVIS AGGIES (1-2): The Aggies posted a 1-2 record at California's Molten Classic Tournament with losses against Baylor and host California and a 3-0 victory over Montana....UC Davis is led by sophomore OH Chantal Paschetta with a 4.00 kpg average....freshman libero Avreeta Singh debuted for the Aggies with 49 digs (4.90 dpg) and three service aces....setter Katelyn Astruc averages 9.80 assists per game....Head Coach Steve Walker is in his first season with the Aggies....LAST TIME: Sept. 3, 2005 at Davis, Calif., Aggies won 3-2 (30-21, 27-30, 30-27, 30-32, 15-11)....SERIES RECORD: UC Davis leads 3-0.
LAST WEEK: The Cougars opened the season at the South Dakota State Jackrabbit Kickoff Tournament....WSU opened with a win for the 15th time in the past 16 seasons, defeating Gonzaga (30-23, 31-33, 30-23, 30-19)....RS-Jr. Adetokunbo Faleti landed 25 kills and hit .408 in her Cougar debut....WSU went on to defeat North Dakota State (30-15, 30-28, 30-26) and Weber State (31-29, 30-25, 30-21) before losing to tournament winner SDSU (23-30, 29-31, 30-24, 28-30)....freshman setter Corina Beyer and Faleti were named to the all-tournament team.
