PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State pounded out 21 hits and routed Wright State 13-4 in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Friday.

Freshman Shea Vucinich was 5-for-5 for the second-straight game and his 10-consecutive hits tied Mike Kinkade's school record set in 1992.

John Desmarais, Jared Prince, Jim Murphy and Simi Reynolds each added three hits for the Cougars (5-1) who racked up their highest total as a team since 26 at Northern Colorado, April 21, 2006.

"We swung the bats pretty well tonight, but we had also had 10 punch outs at the plate, so there is still work to be done," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said.

Redshirt-freshman Chad Arnold (1-1) went seven innings giving up four runs on five hits to earn his first-collegiate victory.

"It was great for Chad to respond from a tough first outing," Marbut said. "This one started out rough, but he did a good job of settling down."

Wright State (0-4) held a 4-2 lead after two and a half innings on a pair of two-run home runs by Jeff Mercer before the Cougars erupted for eight runs in the third inning.

Desmarais and Prince opened the inning with singles to put runners at first and second. Murphy singled threw the left side to score Desmarais and cut the Raiders' lead to 4-3. Michael Weber followed with a three-run home run to right center, his second of the season, to give the Cougars a 6-4 advantage.

One out later, Reynolds singled and stole second. Reynolds moved to third on a ball four wild pitch to Alex Burg. Vucinich then stroked a triple to right center and it was 8-4 Cougars and the end of the day for Wright State starter and loser Michael Woytek (0-2).

After Travis Coulter struck out against Scott Ruthven, Desmarais tripled to the gap in left center scoring Vucinich. Prince followed with a RBI-single to cap the rally and put WSU on top 10-4.

The Cougars added a run in the sixth on an Alex Burg single and two more in the eighth on a double by Riley Tubbs.

Washington State and Wright State continue their three-game series at 2 p.m., Saturday.
