PULLMAN, Wash. - Early Friday morning, the Washington State soccer team was flying around Lower Soccer Field as the Cougars held their first session of fall camp.
Under first-year head coach Keidane McAlpine, Washington State returns nine starters from a team that advanced to the NCAA Championship Second Round in 2011, its third postseason in four years.
The Cougars return 70 percent of their goals from a year ago, 92 percent of their assists and 77 percent of their points.
In addition, goalkeeper Gurveen Clair is back. A native of Canada, Clair recorded a 0.74 goals against average last season. She earned seven solo shutouts and combined for two others.
Washington State hosts Eastern Washington in an exhibtion match, Friday, Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. The Cougars begin their regular season with a home encouter with Gonzaga, Sunday, Aug. 19 at 3 p.m.
The Cougars are scheduled to make seven appearances on the Pac-12 Networks. The first match on television is Friday, Sept. 14 against Hawaii at 4 p.m.
