Guided by consistent play from junior Jennifer Dodd (Portland,Ore.) and senior Jenny Ballou (Portland,Ore.), Washington State is clinging to an eighth place overall standing after 18 holes at the Spartan Invitational in Monterey, Calif.
Dodd lead all Cougars in the second round by firing a 76 and finishing the day in a tie for 21st place. Ballou followed her first round 77 with a 78 in round two and is three spots back in 24th. Sophomore Tasha Browner (Tarzana, Calif.), who was 15th place after the first round, dropped to 27th after shooting an 80 on the second 18. Shanelle Roberts (Tacoma, Wash.) has carded rounds of 78 and 81 and ended the day 40th. WSU combined for a team score of 315 in the second round and a 624 total.
The tournament is being played at the par-72 Laguna Seca Golf Course in Monterey, Calif. Host school San Jose State(602)is taking advantage of the home course and owns a two stroke lead over Arizona State (604). Oklahoma State (607), Tulsa (612), and Vanderbilt (612) round out the top-five.
Tulsa's Stacy Prammanasudh and Vanderbilt's Meredeth Ward are tied at the top of the leader board at 146. Arizona State's Blair O' Neal, San Francisco's Emilie Arnaud, and JoAnn Heller of Oklahoma State are tied for third with four-over-par 148s.
