PULLMAN, Wash. - Although the Washington State women's basketball team's Pacific-10 Conference campaign ended in March, its playing days for the season are not quite finished.

Head coach Sherri Murrell will lead the Cougars on a 12-day tour of Italy May 17-28. While abroad, the Cougars will compete against four Italian teams and tour historic sites and cities throughout the country.

"The Italy tour will be such a great team-building experience for us," Murrell said. "The combination of the culture and the international competition will help our young team develop in many ways. I'm looking forward to this unforgettable adventure and the memories we will create together as a team."

WSU will depart Pullman, Monday, May 17 and arrive in Rome, May 18. The next day, the Cougars will play their first game against G.S. Basket Palestrina. The four-game slate also features match-ups against Cervia Basket, May 21, Crupp Udine, May 24 and Pool Comense, May 26. The team will return to Pullman, May 28.

In between the competitions, the Cougars are scheduled to tour historic cities as Rome, Florence, Venice, San Marino, Milan, Cervia, Udine, Verona, and Como.

The Cougars will visit two independent states during the trip as the team is scheduled to tour Vatican City, May 20.

Among the sites the Cougars will see during the 12-day trip are the Coliseum, Pantheon, Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, San Marco Square, and Lake Como.

In preparation for the trip, the Cougars are allowed 10 practice days, which they are currently in the midst of, before embarking on their tour.

"Having the extra practice days is a tremendous advantage for us," Murrell said. "It gives us a head start into next season."
