What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team will be traveling to Louisville, Ky., Sept. 26-27 for the Cardinal Intercollegiate held at the par-72, 7,001 Cardinal Club Golf Course...the two-day tournament will begin Monday with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes Tuesday.
The Field: The 15 team field will include: Austin Peay, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Marquette, Mercer, Northern Colorado, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Seton Hall, Towson, Wyoming and Washington State.
Last Week: The Cougar men's golf team finished third at the Northwest Collegiate Classic held at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore. Senior Ryan Witz and junior Chris Collins finished in a tie for fourth (208, -8). The finish was Collins' best finish as a Cougar. Redshirt junior Jordan Madison also posted a high finish in a seven way tie for 25th.
Head Coach Walt Williams, On Last Week's finish: "I felt we played really well. Chris and Ryan played very solid. It's a good start to the season to finish third. I am very excited with the way the guys played."
Madison Captures Title: Redshirt junior Jordan Madison captured the 104th Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship title becoming the second consecutive Cougar to win the tournament...tournament was held at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood, Wash., July 11-16...Madison was paired with University of Washington's Travis Andrews for the championship round...the two exchanged the lead three times during the first round which concluded with Andrews ahead by one stroke...Madison took charge in the second round by winning four consecutive holes...his birdie on the 14th gave him a four up advantage and with both players making par on the 15th, Madison clinched the title...redshirt senior David Fern won the tournament in 2004.
