Ryan Witz Leads The Field After First Two Rounds Of Duck Invitational

JUNCTION CITY, Ore.- Senior Ryan Witz sits atop the pack (139, -5) after a strong second round helped him take the lead at the Duck Invitational, March 27. Witz led the Cougars, who shot the second lowest round (283) of the day during the second 18 holes, to finish in fourth heading into the final round at the par-72, 6,807 yard Shadow Hills Country Club.

Witz opened up the tournament shooting a 1-under 71 to head into the second round tied for seventh. The Tucson, Ariz., native stepped up during the second round as he fired a 4-under 68, tying the daily low round, to take a two-stroke lead over San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg and Oregon State's Mitch Gillis. Witz has already carded four top-10 finishes this season including a fourth place effort at the Northwest Collegiate Classic.

Junior Chris Collins and redshirt junior Jordan Madison each shot 4-over 148 to end the first day knotted at 30th. Collins climbed 22 spots during the second round firing a 1-under 71. Madison stayed consistent throughout the first 36 holes shooting consecutive 2-over 74s.

Sophomore Jordan Mason and redshirt senior David Fern rounded out the Cougar contingent tied for 45th (151, +7) and 51st (153, +9), respectively. Mason's 2-under 70 helped him move up 24 spots in the charts during the second round.

The Cougars strong second round comeback was made with the help of three sub-par rounds to move the team up five spots into fourth (581, +5). San Diego State leads the field at a commanding 10-under 566.

The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
