PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Dani Montgomery led the Cougars with 11 points in a losing effort against the Montana Grizzlies, 71-60, at Bohler Gym, Friday night.
The loss dropped the Cougars to 3-6 while the Grizzlies improved to 6-1.
Montgomery's point total was her second double-digit scoring effort of the season. In addition, senior Kate Benz pulled down a season high 12 rebounds for the Cougars, which adds to her career rebound mark of 758. Benz currently stands in third place on the WSU career rebounding list.
The Lady Griz was led by their top scorer, Mandy Morales, who nearly doubled her 17.7 points per game average with a career high 33 points.
Montana jumped out to a 14-point first half lead at 29-14 with 7:51 remaining. The Cougars bounced back with a 12-2 run to end the half cutting the Lady Griz lead to 41-37 at the half.
In the second half, the Cougars pulled within two points at 34-32 with 16:54 remaining, but a Lady Griz put the game away with a 15-3 run to open up a double-digit lead, which they remained the rest of the game.
The Cougars will take a short break for action as they return to Friel Court, Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. in Beasley Coliseum.
