LOS ANGELES - Washington State (8-7-1, 1-4-0 Pac-10) suffered its fourth conference loss of the season Friday as USC (8-4-2, 2-1-1 Pac-10) shut out the Cougars 2-0 at McAlister Field.
The two teams went scoreless through 52 minutes of play before a WSU foul led to a Trojan penalty kick opportunity. Southern California's Amy Rodriguez converted the shot tallying her team-leading fifth goal of the season and putting the Trojans ahead 1-0.
USC scored an insurance goal at the 87:35 mark as Leah Gallegos ran onto a Nini Loucks pass and fired a far-post shot past WSU keeper Katie Hultin.
The Cougars were out shot 0-to-14 in the match with Rosa Anna Tantillo and Loucks leading the Trojan attack with four shots each. Hultin had three saves in the contest while USC keeper Veronica Simonton earned her seventh shutout of the season.
The Cougars continue their Los Angeles road trip facing No. 4 UCLA Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at Marshall Field in Drake Stadium.
