What's Happening This Week - The Washington State women's rowing team will attempt to build on the success of last week when it faces Pac-10 rival Oregon State at Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash., Saturday, April 28 at 10 a.m. The regatta will feature participation by all boats for each school.

WSU vs. Oregon State - This will be the third meeting of the year between WSU and Oregon State. At the San Diego Crew Classic April 8, the Cougars' varsity eight defeated the Beavers 7:10.22 to 7:21.86 in the Jessop Whittier Cup Petite Final. In the JV final, WSU placed third at 7:12.12, and Oregon State took sixth at 7:20.16. The Cougars also met the Beavers during the fall racing period in the Head of the Lake regatta at Montlake Cut in Seattle November 12. In the varsity eight race, the WSU squad finished fifth with a time of 17:47.41, just behind fourth place Oregon State 17:40.30. Oregon State's JV boat rowed a time of 19:09.08 to WSU's 19:14.30, and in the third varsity, Oregon State bested WSU 19:02.38 to 19:39.13.

WSU Coach Tammy Crawford on This Week's Regatta - "Oregon State has sped up since the San Diego Crew Classic. Our programs are built on experienced athletes and we take a similar approach when it comes to our athletes and procedures, so I expect a good race. We have an intense rivalry that has been built over the years and I see this as an opportunity to make an impact on the PAC-10 standings as well as the national polls."

Latest Poll Information: With a No. 20 ranking, the Cougars' varsity eight squad returns to the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll. WSU was tied with Pennsylvania at No. 20 two weeks ago before dropping out of the Top 20 in last week's poll. Oregon State received 14 points in this week's poll.

Last Week's Recap - The Cougars were victorious in every event last week defeating San Diego State in the morning's races, and beating Sacramento State and UC Davis in separate afternoon affairs at the Stanford Regatta April 21. The varsity eight kicked things off by defeating San Diego State 6:31.7 to 6:44.2. The second varsity eight rowed to victory 6:42.6 to SDSU's 7:14.0, and the novice eight raced at a time of 6:47.3 to SDSU's 7:13.1. The varsity four took to the water and championed a time of 7:39.3 to 8:11.4. A strong headwind affected the rowing times in the afternoon with the Cougar varsity eight defeating Sacramento State 7:39.0 to 7:56.5, the second varsity eight winning 7:36.3 to 8:30.1, and the novice eight rowing at a time of 7:53.1, to 8:45.6. The varsity four defeated UC Davis 9:13.3 to 10:03.0.

Cougars on Television - The April 14 regatta against the University of Washington will air Friday, May 4 at 3 p.m. on Fox Sports Net Northwest. It's the first time in Cougar rowing history that a home event has been televised.

In Unity There Is Strength - The important addition of talented athletes and recruits to WSU rowing has allowed a combination of both the novice and varsity eights that has not been attempted since the inception of the program. Although there will still be a novice boat and a varsity boat, the added depth allows the team to increase its overall experience at all levels according to Coach Crawford.

Coaching Tenure - Varsity coach Tammy Crawford is entering her 11th year as head coach of the Cougars and 14th as a collegiate coach. Novice coach Jodi Winchell begins her ninth year as a coach with the Cougars, and assistant Michelle Kistler enters her third year.
