PULLMAN, Wash. - The National Golf Coaches Association named Washington State University junior Kim Welch a first team All-American at the Division I Women's College Golf banquet May 21, in Auburn, Ala.
In 2004, Welch led the nation with five tournament victories including wins at the Islander Spring Classic, the Oregon Duck Invitational, the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, the Mountain View Collegiate at Tucson, and the Peg Barnard Collegiate. Her wins at the Oregon Duck Invitational and the Peg Barnard Collegiate were her third and fourth consecutive victories at the respective tournaments.
Welch finished in the top 19 in all 11 tournaments she competed. She was also named GolfWorld Player of the Week for March 19, March 27, and April 7, issues. Her No. 8 ranking in the Golfstat Cup standings from April 7-May 5, is this highest a Cougar golfer has been ranked.
Her 30 career top 25 finishes and 23 top 10 finishes are WSU school records.
This is the second straight year Welch has been named an NGCA All-American.
