PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State's Brittany Johnson has been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII third team for University Division Women's Volleyball as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Johnson, a sophomore outside hitter from Phoenix, Ariz., has a 3.71 grade point average and is majoring in management information systems. She is the Cougars' leading hitter with a 3.92 kills per game average which is ninth-best in the Pacific-10 Conference. Johnson has double-figure kills in 23 of WSU's 27 matches this year. She was named MVP of 2006 Baden Cougar Challenge tournament and also selected to Texas-Arlington all-tournament team. Johnson was a Pac-10 2005 All-Freshman team honorable mention selection.

To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a significant contributor to the team, and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII includes schools in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and British Columbia.
