PULLMAN, Wash. - Arizona State used two second-half goals off long balls to stop Washington State's five-game winning streak with a 3-1 Pacific-10 women's soccer victory.

The Cougars (7-5-0, 2-1-0 Pac-10) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in Pac-10 play as they lost at home for the first time since Sept. 12. "We didn't come to play today," said WSU head coach Lisa Gozley. "But ASU wanted it more. We were sleepwalking through the first half."

Sophomore Christina Pallan's (Las Vegas, Nevada) first goal of the season evened the match at 1-1 in the 52nd minute. Junior Kimberly Schelpf (Ocean, N.J.) sent a crossing pass to Pallan, who dribbled to the top of the 18-yard box and lofted a shot into the upper right corner of the goal.

Six minutes later the Sun Devils (8-4-0, 2-0-0 Pac-10) broke the match open as Marianne Simmons sent a long ball that Karine Inoue ran down. Inoue passed ahead to Jaclyn Clark who pushed a shot inside the left post from six yards out.

A long ball by Jessica Bohl started the final scoring play for ASU. Clark settled the pass and found Inoue in the box. Inoue beat Cougar freshman goalkeeper Shannon Wilson (Las Vegas, Nevada) one-v-one with a slow roller in the 82nd minute.

The Sun Devils took a 1-0 advantage in the 12th minute when Aisha Thomas knocked a shot off the hands of Wilson and the ball bounced into the net. Schelpf had a chance to tie the match less than a minute later when she beat ASU keeper Erin Reinke in the box, but she slipped and fell at the mouth of the goal and ASU was able to clear the ball.

The Cougars host Arizona (6-6-1, 0-2-0 Pac-10) in the final home match of the season Sunday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. PDT.
